The City of Laurinburg operates an extensive collection system comprised of 156 miles of gravity sewer and 33 pump stations to convey wastewater to the Leith Creek WWTP. One of these pump stations, the Barnes Bridge Road Pump Station, was a duplex style submersible pump station that was constructed in 1994. This pump station exhibited significant degradation of its mechanical and electrical equipment and was quickly approaching the end of its useful life.

With the help of Willis Engineers, the City upgraded this pump station by adding features to improve its reliability and accessibility. Completed in February 2019, the improvements project included the addition of new pumps, fall protection, and a fiberglass enclosure to house the discharge valves and piping. The project also replaced the electrical system, added a generator, and upgraded the communication system.
